How to make Kesari Bath|Popular south Indian sweet dish

Kesari bath is a popular south Indian sweet dish made from Rava (semolina) and is usually prepared for breakfast or during festivals in south India. Here is a step by step recipe to prepare this prominent sweet dish.

Kesari Bath Recipe

Ingredients (1 cup = 255 ML)

  1. 1 cup of rava
  2. ½ cup ghee
  3. Few cashew nuts, raisins /dry fruits of your choice
  4. 1½ cups water
  5. 1 cup sugar (add depending on your preference)
  6. 1 tsp cardamom powder
  7. ½ tsp vanilla essence



  1. In a pan, heat 3 tbsp of ghee and roast the rava, keep aside.


  • Heat 2 tbsp ghee and roast the cashews and raisins until it turns golden brown, keep aside.
  • In a large pan boil 1½ cups water and add it to the roasted rava.


  • Stir continuously till the rava absorbs water and no lumps are formed.
  • Add sugar and vanilla essence.


  • Keep stirring on low flame until the sugar dissolves.
  • Add the remaining ghee and stir continuously until the mixture is combined well.
  • Place a lid and simmer for a few minutes until the rava is cooked well.
  • Add the roasted cashews, raisins and the cardamom powder and mix well.


  • Serve the kesari bath as a dessert.
  • Enjoy!
