I believe that art is a great way to engage kids and I began by involving my son creating hand & footprint art when he was 18 months old. He took an immediate love to art too and since then there has been no looking back. From hand prints, my son transitioned to creating free style stroke painting using poster colors.
Inspired by my 2 year old son’s Art work, I embarked upon an idea to set up a home art studio, where he & I have a dedicated space to draw, paint, craft & be creative.
Since we have large living room, I decided to convert one portion of it to an art studio.
I began by adorning the corner wall with art and crafts that we have created – this is the ‘inspiration wall’. I then arranged few flowers and soft toys for a child friendly design.
In order to avoid a mess, most of my art material is organised in cupboards and assembled in the art studio as required when we begin our creative ventures.
Here’s a video tour and pictures of our home art studio, hope you like it & leaves you inspired to be creative every day.
The Home Art Studio:
The ‘inspiration wall’ – a combination of free style stroke paintings by my 3 year old, crayons, oil pastels art & paper crafts:
A shelf organizer made using recycled carton boxes, it’s good enough to accommodate small books, crayons, paintboxes, etc,.. :
Flowers and soft toys for a child friendly design:
Few of our craft work on the inspiration wall, we utilize recycled materials for most of our craft works – these are easy and great fun for both me & my son:
Hand print art
Re-purposed mason jars
Fridge Magnets made out of re-purposed mason jars lids with fingerprint art
Nature art
Beach Crafts
Footprint Art
Tissue roll crafts
Recycling Projects – Organizer
Projects out of Rescued Cardboard
Putting coloring sheets to good use!
The Sgraffito technique
Pospsicle stick crafts
I hope you liked my home art studio and have drawn inspiration from it to be creative every day. I specially hope parents with little kids take an opportunity to spend sometime in a week or holidays to try out some of these amazing creative work – i believe every child should be given the opportunity to enjoy art and get involved.

Oh I cannot convey how much I love this. I am a professional artist and photographer and I really try to immerse my kids in art. However, its funny how I tend to get sucked into my work, therefore discluding them as I have a client need to fulfill. This is the best of both worlds. A place for us both to just get messy and be creative without having to worry about my clients commissioned pieces becoming an art project.

This is such a clever idea! 🙂 I keep all of my sons art work (he’s four and he LOVES to create!) and started putting it on one wall in our home. But I need to create a “creative” space!

I love this! If I had more wall space in my home I’d dedicate a wall to artwork. I do have a couple of places I switch out my kids’ projects each week when they do something new. They get such pride having their art on display!

He has got one fan base in me. He has inspired me to work on my hobby back. I LOVE ART, but did not get a chance to do it while growing up, now i am thinking to start learning it again. Thanks to you Ann and your family who encouraged him at such young age.
